CONSIDER THIS!

Does your high-schooler need something fun and productive to do this summer? Do you want peace of mind as to where they are and what they are up to? Send them our way to be a Teen Leader at the Colorado Mountain Ranch. Teenagers thrive on feeling important. At the Colorado Mountain Ranch, they not only feel like it, they really ARE stars!  Teen Leaders get a one-of-a-kind summer in a wholesome outdoor setting, having fun and growing as leaders.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

High-school-age Teen Leaders are matched in advance with a group of elementary-school-age campers or middle-school-age campers who are generally two or three years younger than they are. The Teen Leader will be mentored by the counselor for that group as they learn to assist with the younger children. The Teen leaders act as a junior counselor while also participating in all the fun activities.

CAMP ACTIVITIES

Each Teen leader who is helping with a group has the same opportunity as all the others in the group to participate, learn, practice individual skills, and enjoy all the activities right along with the others in the group.  Each week, the Teen Riding Leader will have the chance to assist the counselor with the Level 1 Riding Group and ride horses along with the group, sometimes helping the wranglers with horse care and chores at the corral.

DOCUMENTED COMMUNITY SERVICE

While gaining experience as care-takers and positive role models for young children, Teen Leaders will also have their hours assisting with their group in Camp documented as Community Service hours, a total of 35 hours per week.  This documentation can be helpful when applying in the future for a volunteer or paid job and can be required for college applications.

TEEN LEADER PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the program are for each teenager to gain personal competence, confidence, resilience, and a sense of responsibility in today’s world. Goals for the Teen Leader include learning how to interact with all ages in a positive way, training to become a children’s group leader, developing skills in teaching various activities by assisting, and feeling the satisfaction of community service. The Teen Leader program at the Colorado Mountain Ranch offers teenagers the opportunity to be with others in an upbeat, wholesome, active, and fun outdoor setting within a supportive community.

THE NEW TEEN LEADER PROGRAM

The 2021 Teen Leader Program at the Colorado Mountain Ranch is different from the Counselor-in-Training program which due to Covid cannot be offered this season.  It is designed to be as safe as possible in this time of Covid, as groups need to stay consistent from the beginning to the end of each day. Instead of spending a lot of peer time together as in the CIT program, this summer our Teen Leaders will always be with the group and adult counselor they are assisting. To avoid contact with many different people, Teen Leaders may only assist group counselors, not activity instructors. Each Teen Leader will become a consistent member of the group they are assisting and ride on the bus with them, also becoming a member of the “bus pod.”
